All good things will come to an end as Taufik Hidayat bade farewell to the world of badminton. The popular Indonesian shuttler lost on the opening round on his home Open in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Badminton lovers will be missing all the beautiful courtcraft, controversial off the court antics and also his backhand smashes.

A surprised lost to India’s youngster B. Sai Praneeth proved to be an anti climax to his fans all over the world but nobody can take away Taufik Hidayat’s 15 fabulous he had as a badminton player.

Taufik Hidayat’s major honors:-

2005 World Title
2002/2006 Back to back Asian Games
2002/2006 Thomas Cup Champion

The only title missing from his cabinet is the All England Championship but he came close in 1999 and 2000.

A few words to his fans was “Appreciate me for what I’ve achieved in the earlier part of my career, not the tailend,” said the six-time Indonesian Open winner, whose form took a drastic dip over the last two years.

All he has hung up his racquet, Taufik will spend much of his time now on producing badminton champions through his Taufik Hidayat Academy which was launched early this year.

After Peter Gade, Lee Hyun Ill, Taufik is the third big name to call it quits and we wish him all the best in his future and thanks for all the sweet moments and memories to a true champion of badminton!
