Malaysian shuttlers gave their reasoning on why they performed not up to the mark during the recent Thomas and Uber Cup Finals.

Here are the reasons given by them :-

  1. They were, culturally, not as mentally strong as the shuttlers from China and South Korea
  2. There was too much disturbance from the media and their surroundings (at the hostel where they shared the facilities with athletes from other sports at Bukit Kiara)
  3. The motivation camp was held too close to the Finals
  4. They lost to Japan (2-3 in the group tie) because they did not get a chance to try out the stadium when Nigeria failed to turn up for their opening match

To be honest i am surprised and shocked to see such lame excuses given by these players. Here are my reasonings :-

  1. I must say this is the major stumbling block on why most Malaysians don’t excel or do well in sports especially during tense situation. They tend to crumble. It seems like a disease in Malaysia. I am pretty sure most of my Malaysian counterparts will support my comment on this
  2. What’s wrong sharing? You guys sure you can be Thomas cup champion if there is not disturbance from media and no sharing of facilities with other athletes? China have more then 1 billion population and Indonesia is like 10 to 20 times bigger then Malaysia. I am sure they have more disturbance then you all have
  3. Motivation camp? So without motivation camp you can’t motivate yourself to excel for your country and nation? Enough said!
  4. This is the most lame excuse they can give. Couldn’t try out the courts earlier? So you all are blaming on Nigeria’s absence for your failure? Isn’t that lame. Imagine players from other country like Denmark, have to get use of the court and also the weather. Never hear them complaining about that also. Come on, you are playing at home and not Norway!! You have the crowd shouting for you, the weather that suits you, what else you all want?

So i rest my case. More comments and constructive ideas will be welcome.

Oh goodness… who gave such answers?! It's a lot of pressure to win alright, but there's no reason to give any excuse at all. I wonder how the “management” pressured the players and the whole team on this. I think it's not a rocket science to understand that China was just too good that night.

oh.. I was shocked when I read those silly excuses, why blame the court? why blame the media? and their surroundings too?

LCW was not on the mood.. why?

this the best lame excuse that I know..

(hey, I'm one of your fans on this site.. keep on uploading those exciting games..)

Just accepting defeat and learning from your mistakes IN GAME is everything you need to remember. Excuses don't account for nothing, especially when it's on home turf. One major aspect of a true athlete is being able to handle the pressure. If you can't perform under pressure, you won't win when it counts the most.

Talent is one thing, but you need to back it up with experience, nerves of steel, and the determination and motivation to back it up.

Realistically, China has more talent and depth than Malaysia. LD outplayed LCW in the semi and even if LCW had won, I beleive Malaysia would have lost the semi since it did not have the depth. I wonder if the coaching also played a role. Are the malaysian coaches top notch or they were hired because of their achievements on the court?

  • They lose in Beijing because the Chinese crowd gives them too much pressure

They lose at home because their home crowd's support gives them too much pressure

Maybe they should play in empty stadiums without TV and media then maybe they can win but then no one would know about it.

They lost to Japan because as a team Japan has much more depth than Malaysia and beyond all, tries much harder.

Motivation camp? tell me the translation is wrong…

Try the courts? I mean what the hell are you saying… doesnt take hours to get used to the drift and it's not like the size or surface is any different…

Maybe they need to adjust their eyes to the color of the court? hahaha

Well said brother. Don't you ever get furious with such excuses? If i was them just tell the committee during the meeting that we lost because we were not good enough. That will be much better and more professional rather then blaming other little little things! @@

To be 100% honest, i think the main reason for malaysia's poor performance is just lack of talent. I mean let's face it, Chong Wei is an amazing player, but who else is there? putting chong wei aside, the rest of the malaysian players are just not good enough to be winning big matches such as the thomas cup. There is just not enough talent in the malaysian team other than chong wei. China has talent wherever you look. Their singles is the best (Lin dan), their doubles is very strong (chai and fu), their second singles is also strong (chen jin). if you look at malaysia, their singles is very strong (chong wei), and… thats it..

Malaysia is a place full of thieve. The government r hellish ppl , make the player lazy to contribute to malaysia.Becoz most player r chinese , malaysia. And the government treat all chinese malaysia to be third world ppl.Make all the player get angry and let china win this tournament. As malaysia boleh? Malay boleh? If theat all race equally i think.Malaysian player will be more fighting spirit

IF THIS WOULD BE THE SITUATION. LET'S ANALYZE: I think ENVIRONMENT was the most important factor to consider. Reasons cannot be considered if we failed the objectives and/or goal we have before a competition (whatever the team event they joined). I may suggest to improve the skill: LEARN TO BLOCK OUT NOISE, be mentally tough team. —Kim Clyde (FACEBOOK)

First, I must congratulate the Chinese for putting together such a strong and formidable team. It was simply that. Secondly, the preparations put in by the Chinese is second to none. Just look at their fitness – both mentally and physically. Finally, Malaysia need new blood. I haven't anyone capable of taking over from Lee. I was kinda surprise to Wong playing 2nd singles. It's a shame that none can even succeed from Wong.

  • yes totally agreed, these are the lamest excuses possibly said.

  • There was only one upset in the CHN-Malaysia encounter, that is the severe blow received by LCW. The other results were OK. It is already nice that they did beat Denmark (who I think would have given better opposition against China).
Now why LCW was so severely beaten? He thought he was playing againt the Lin Dan of last Year. Thus he thought improving his attack was the key ; meanwhile Lin Dan improved his defense! Lin Dan almost never used his fast smash, he totally changed his style. LCW said that his state of mind was at fault, that the opponent's half-court looked small, but this was not the result of his mind, it was the result of the incredible defense of Lin Dan.

Kinetics Movement is the key word in the development of a sportsman's career be it atheletics or racquet games.

Lee Chong Wei must be thought how to convert his aggresive movements into kinetics in order to par with Lin Dan.

Lin Dan has excellent kinetics movement. In short, you need to get a Kinetics Movement Intervention Specialist Trainer to develop the badminton players footwork and movements. Then, you'll see the difference in the game.

thats excuses reli lame and shame to malaysian sports man..if that kind of reason make a sportsman lose his game, then the sportsman should start thinking the problem actually lies on his own..everyone makes mistake but not to blame to lame reason such that, but should try to learn from mistake and never ever make that mistake anymore!!

  • Our Malaysian Shuttle really lack of Sportmanship.
    – How could they blame for culture Mentally not as good as other country. They eager to win attitude But Ours r easy Give Up Atitude! We r not even in Tense Situation because we easily outplay by China. Its a TAME DEFEAT !They use their brain + Skill + Tactics to play but we're not, Our shuttle no Fighting Spirit all.

    – Can't Perform Under Pressure From Media and Surrounding ? Its a Home Ground Match! Whole Stadium r supporting u but still can't even Perform ?
If you're talking you're Playing Olympic in China, you can't cope the pressure surrounding is an acceptable Reason but we're not.

Motivation Camp? Its a Bullshit! How many Tournament we been playing all these years? are they still need motivation “CAMP” Are they no Self Motivation at all ? No inspire to Win this cup?

Come on. show to all what's the best you got for all these years of effort and training . At least we can see you had been a GOOD FIGHT for glory etc. We will respect if lose. we as your fans will know you had try your best. But not losing by Mistakes. Out! Out! Net! Net! lastly Give up !
What we seen is an ugly mistake till i close one of my eye to watch the show bro. NOT A TAME DEFEAT!

These are my only point of views. I apologize if i accidentally make any disturbance of any fans in this site.
    I Sorry.!

I agreed with Ben: “lack of sportmanship”.
What is sportmanship? Victory is one day happiness only. The real spiritual is to make us to think how to progress every time.
OK! I accepted all the reasons they gave. And then???
Do not see any improvement actions?
Next time annother reasons will annouce?
