This year Malaysia Open 2013 will be without Juliane Schenk and Ratchanok Intanon as both of them have withdrawn from the tournament. The two ladies are seeded 2nd and 5th respectively and were expected to meet in the last eight. With their withdrawals, the bottom half of the tournament will be left wide open.

Korea Open winner Sung Ji Hyun will be the biggest beneficiary as she is also drawn in the bottom half of the draw. She will either have either Minatsu Mitani or Porntip Buranaprasertsuk in the last eight.

Two more withdrawals from the main draw are Malaysia’s Vivian Hoo / Woon Khe Wei in women’s doubles and Adcock and Ellis of England in men’s doubles.
