World No1 Lee Chong Wei will give the Singapore Open from June 18-23 a miss to prepare himself for the world championship that will be held in Guangzhu, China from August 5-11.
The Singapore Open will be the last super series event before the world championship and Chong Wei will be looking to stay away from any injuries. He will be looking to win his first world title after comoing short in the final two years ago.
However the 30 year old will be competing at the coming Indonesian Open Super Series Premier from June 10-16. Chong Wei will be looking to add another Indonesian title after winning it at 2011.
Malaysia’s challenge in Singapore will fall on Chong Wei Feng and Liew Daren. wei Feng will take on R.M.V Gurusaidutt in the 1st round while Liew Daren will have a tough 1st round encounter with Wang Zhengming of China.
Meanwhile in the men’s doubles, Goh V Shem / Lim Khim Wah will have Malaysian Open champions of Mohd Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan in the 1st roung.
Sonia Cheah will start in the qualifiers and she will be looking to bounce back after recent poor showing in the recent Sudirman Cup.
