Goh Soon Huat recently came out tops in a trial done by BAM in the Thomas Cup selection trials held for the second time at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara.
Soon Huat defeated Misbun Sidek’s son Misbun Ramdan 21-19, 21-15. Soon Huat came out blazing and played aggressive badminton to win the trials in some fashion.
Now the interesting part..
Lee Chong Wei insisted that Misbun Ramdan being selected for the final spot for the Thomas Cup in New Dehlhi although Misbun lost to Soon Huat which I think is not appropriate.
It seems that Chong Wei is giving some special protection towards Misbun Ramdan due to Misbun Sidek is the former coach of Chong Wei.
Rashid Sidek, the brother of Misbun Sidek came was more professional in his approach by stating that Soon Huat deserved his place in the Thomas Cup team due to his trial victory. “What’s the point winning the trial and train hard for it if you won’t get selected even after winning it?”
I share the same sentiment with Rashid Sidek as Soon Huat qualified by merit and Chong Wei should stay out of this matter as there is too much politics in sports in Malaysia already.
I hope BAM make the right choice to pick Soon Huat instead of Misbun Ramdan.
