Lee Chong Wei made it to the finals of the All England 2010 badminton championship for the second year running. Chong Wei defeated Peter Gade in the semi finals with a score of 21-17, 21-14 in 47 minutes.

Chong Wei chances of winning this years tournament is much brighter after Lin Dan exit in the hands of Bao Chunlai.

Chong Wei opponent in the final will be up and coming Japan player, Kenichi Tago. Tago defeated Chunlai 18-21, 22-20,21-18 in a 76 minutes battle.

Chong Wei chances to win the All England is bright as Tago don’t have a good track record against Chong Weil. Malaysians will be keeping their fingers crossed so that Chong Wei will finally lift a prestigious tournament. Tago will be tough to beat as he also is gunning for personal glory.

Lee Chong Wei is on the brink for greatness as his biggest rival Lin Dan lost surprisingly to Bao Chunlai in the quarter finals.

Chong Wei didn’t had an easy time against Shon Wan Ho as Chong Wei was dragged to 3sets. Chong Wei finally prevailed with a scoreline of 14-21, 21-14, 21-14 in 61 minutes.

Meanwhile Lin Dan lost to Chun Lai with a scoreline of 16-21, 21-17, 18-21. Next up for Chong Wei will be Peter Gade. Gade had to toil around the court for 80 minutes as he defeated Taufik Hidayat 20-22, 22-20, 22-20.

The other semi finals will be between Bao Chunlai taking on Kenichi Tago. Will this be Chong Wei’s biggest break through? We shall find out when he takes on Peter Gade at 8.30pm today Malaysia.

Lee Chong Wei continued his journey at the All England 2010 badminton championship when he defeated Chetan Anand of India 21-15, 21-16 in a 26 minutes battle.

Sony is next up for Chong Wei. It will be a mouth watering affair as Chong Wei will be looking to avenge his defeat to Sony at the last World Championships.

The biggest shocked for Malaysia happened in the men doubles event when top seed Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong lost in straights games to Danish pairing of Jonas Rasmussen-Lars Paaske. The top Malaysian pair lost in just 27 minutes, loosing 13-21 and 11-21.

Malaysia women team was more disappointing as all crashed out. Wong Mew Choo lost to Jiang Yanjiao 18-21, 9-21.

Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui lost to Greysia Polii-Meiliana Jauhari 20-22,15-21. Pei Tty-Eei Hui is ranked fourth in this tournament.

Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen, Hafiz, Tan Fook-Wan Wah together with Chong Wei are still the remaining players left to carry Malaysia challenge in the All England.

I won’t be surprised if Chong Wei and company will be sent home all together today as their nemesis waiting at the next round are all tough.

Bao Chunlai took on Chen Long for the men singles title of the German Open 2010. Earlier both players had defeated Malaysian players in the semi finals. Hafiz lost to Chen Long while Chunlai got the better of Choong Hann.

All Malaysians crashed out of the quarter finals stage of the Yonex German Open 2010 except for men singles player Wong Choong Hann and Hafiz Hashim.

Both players will have an uphill battle at their hands as Hafiz is up against up and coming Chen Long while Choong Hann will have his old nemesis, Bao Chunlai in the semi finals.

I am basically disappointed with our men doubles team at the German Open. None of them made it beyond to the quarter finals. It really looks bleak for our backup players as their performances are so inconsistent.

How Malaysian players fared in the quarter finals :-

Lee Chong Wei took on Sony Dwi Kuncoro in the Beijing Olympics 2008 men singles quarter finals. Matches between this two players has always been close with Chong Wei having the upper hand.

Of late, Sony has been beating Chong Wei at the bigger tournaments notably the World Championships.

Anyway enjoy the battle of Malaysia vs Indonesia at Beijing with Chong Wei needing to play Sony again at the All England 2010 in the early rounds.

Du Jing & Yu Yang took on Lee Hyo Jung & Lee Kyung Won in the women doubles finals of the Beijing Olympics 2008.

On paper, the Chinese pairing will be the overwhelming favorites to clinch the gold medal in front of their home crowd.

Coach Hendrawan thinks and believes that Hafiz Hashim will once again be a champion. From my point of view, Hafiz won’t be a champion again due to his lack of mental toughness and wrong attitude.

Hendrawan says that Hafiz should seize the opportunity to win back his critics starting with the German Open from March 2-7.

So can Hafiz Hashim proof is wrong by winning tournaments or will he be remembered as a failure in the world of badminton? I surely think that Hendrawan is crazy and i really hope Hafiz can proof me wrong this time around after disappointing us again and again.

The stage is set for men’s singles shuttler Mohd Hafiz Hashim to be a champion again.

And national coach Hendrawan wants Hafiz to be brave enough to seize the opportunity at the German Open, which will be held in Mulheim from March 2-7.

A good outing in Germany should give Hafiz the confidence to face tougher challenges in the All-Eng­land at Birmingham from March 9-14.

Hafiz, who last won a title at the Philippines Open in 2006, is seeded eighth in the German Open and, barring any upsets, should make his way to the quarter-finals, at least.

He is in the lower half of the draw with second seed Chen Long of China, Taiwan’s Hsieh Yu-hsing (fifth seed) and three European trouble-makers – Germany’s Marc Zwiebler (fourth), England’s Andrew Smith (ninth) and Poland’s Wacha Przemyslaw (13th).

Hafiz’s first challenge will be against Smith in the third round.

Three Malaysians – Wong Choong Hann, Tan Chun Seang and Kuan Beng Hong – are in the top half with top seed Bao Chunlai of China.

Choong Hann, Chun Seang and Beng Hong still have a chance to represent Malaysia in the Thomas Cup Finals if they do well in Europe.

Most of the world’s top 10 players, including Lee Chong Wei, have skipped the German Open to focus on the All-England.

Hendrawan said that “Hafiz has what it takes to become a champion again”.

“There is a chance for Hafiz in the German Open and I really hope that he will be bold enough to go all the way for the title,” said Hendrawan.

“He has to have the self-belief to make a difference in this GP Gold Open tournament.

“I will give all the encouragement he needs to be successful. A good outing should give him a great boost to face the daunting task in the All-England.”

In the All-England, Hafiz has been lumped in the bottom half of the draw with three of China’s top players – Lin Dan, Chen Jin and Chunlai – Yu-shing, Denmark’s Joachim Persson and Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh.

“For now, it is better for Hafiz to focus on the German Open. He will take on Yu-hsing in the first round and it will be great if he can avenge his defeat to the Taiwanese,” said Hendrawan.

Hafiz suffered a big blow to his morale in his first international tournament this year when he went down fighting to Yu-hsing in the first round of the Malaysian Open last month.

“I do not want to look too far ahead into the All-England just yet. It’s quite tough with all the top three Chinese players there. But a good showing in Germany will certainly give Hafiz the confidence to stretch his opponents in England,” said Hendrawan.

A good showing in Europe will also put Hafiz in good stead ahead of the Thomas Cup Finals, which will be held at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil from May 9-16.

The German-bound team will leave for Mulheim tomorrow.
