A well known badminton figure, Indra Gunawan has left the world. Indra Gunawan the 61-year-old Indonesian passed away yesterday morning at his home in Jakarta after battling with colon cancer for about two years.
It was indeed a big loss. Indra Gunawan is a well known coach that gives younger players chances and is an unorthodox coach.
Hafiz Hashim rise in the badminton scene was really a master class act from Indra. Not to forget Lee Chong Wei rise from the junior ranks to the world scene was also with Indra’s guidance.
May you rest in peace Indra and your contribution towards the beautiful game of badminton will not be forgotten.

After running this site almost one year i am not sure how do you all rate Badmintonfreak. I really want to know what you all think about this site?
From my point of view, i think i am not doing well enough because this site is not producing a lot of traffic. Maybe it’s my slowness in putting up the match or maybe not providing a link to download a match.
Although badminton is not the number one sports on the planet but i am pretty sure it’s among the top 5 sports. No doubt soccer is the number 1 sports not only on earth but the whole universe.
I am really clueless on how to generate more interest or traffic on a badminton site. From my viewing, not many people search for badminton related stuff on Google. Maybe there is, but i am not sure what they are finding for. Any idea?
I spend hours a day to provide the best i could but the end result is still not up to my expectations. The greatest satisfaction i get from this site is the amount of comments i get from all those badminton lovers out there.
Valerie, Natalie, Kim, Tobias, chiewshi, george, TJ, matze, wasedaxiao just to name a few (there are many more i left out but you know who you are), thanks a million for the great moral support and satisfaction towards my work.
Not only that, there are currently 360 + RSS readers in this site as well. That is also a satisfaction.
Don’t worry i am not writing this as my farewell post but just couldn’t find a better way to express myself. Argh… i am getting too emotional! Anybody got a tissue?
Anyway i just hope you people out there can give me some ideas on generating more interest towards badminton and this site. Give me some moral support by giving a rating to this site. Positive or negative it’s all up to you. I don’t mind…
Thanks for reading and keep on smashing the shuttle!
Love,
Jason!

I support Malaysia and i am satisfied with Malaysia’s semi finals appearance in the Sudirman Cup 2009. I couldn’t ask for more as the Malaysian players gave their all in China.
Maybe, Malaysia would have made the finals if not for their 2-3 lost to eventual runners up South Korea. Nonetheless i am satisfied. How about you? Are you satisfied with your country’s performance?

For Malaysia to qualify for the Sudirman Cup semi finals, Denmark will be standing in Malaysia’s way. Both Malaysia and Denmark lost surprisingly to dark horses Korea. There is no two ways about this match. Crucial for both countries.
Malaysia fell 2-3 to Korea while the Danes lost 1-4 to the Koreans. I expect the Koreans to bulldoze Hong Kong in their final group match. So the Malaysia vs Denmark winner will play mighty China.
Malaysia will once again be banking on Lee Chong Wei, Koo Kien Keat & Tan Boon Heong, Chin Eei Hui & Wong Pei Tty and Wong Mew Choo to get the points.
Malaysia will have the upper hand against the Danes as Peter Gade wasn’t well against Park Shung Hwan. Migraine it seems. The Danish women singles player was very poor against the Korean.
I predict a tough battle with Malaysia winning 3-2. Any other predictions and comments is welcome.

The Sudirman Cup for 2009 is just round the corner. Every country is preparing their players for this mixed team badminton championship.
This competition comprises of men singles, men doubles, women singles, women doubles and mixed doubles events.
For once, Malaysia will be sending a formidable squad for this championship. It has always been a poor hunting ground for Malaysia as our women players are not on par with other ladies from around the world. Not anymore!
If Malaysia put their squad according to rankings, this will be as below :-
Men Singles – Lee Chong Wei (Rank: 1)
Men Doubles – Koo Kien Keat & Tan Boon Heong (Rank: 4)
Women Singles – Julia Wong(Rank :12)
Women Doubles – Wong Pei Tty & Chin Eei Hui (Rank :1)
Mixed Double – Koo Kien Keat & Ng Hui Lin (Rank :28)
I am not too sure about whether has Malaysia made passed the semi finals of the Sudirman Cup, nonetheless i am quite optimistic Malaysia can qualify for the semi finals. If Malaysia could avoid the Chinese dragons, Malaysia might even make it to the finals.
Winning? Quite hard but an improved all round performances will be good.
Those are just my point of view. Ideas and criticisms are welcome! ^^
