BAM Boss, Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff believes Malaysia have maintained their status as one of the top nations in the sport with the runners-up showing at the Thomas Cup 2014. Tengku stated that Malaysia is back on top of the chart of world badminton.

I beg to differ with his statement as I do not think we should be celebrating just yet. Yes, we did well to be runners up but it just for this short term or moment only. I do not think Malaysia can launch an assault on the Thomas Cup from the moment Lee Chong Wei has retired.

I must also give credit for our scratch pairing of if Tan Boon Heong-Hoon Thien How and also Tan Wee Kiong-Goh V Shem. They played exceptionally well.

From now onwards, Malaysia must work hard to produce more international beaters and not just bank on this bunch of players as some of them are considered almost on their twilight of their careers.

Take a look at Japan, they have Kento Momota which demolished our 2nd best player Chong Wei Feng in straight games. Liew Daren seems to have lost all his confidence. Who else can we bank on when Lee Chong Wei retires?

We should rejoice the moment that our team did well in Thomas Cup 2014 but we are still far from being the top of world badminton.
