Wong Mew Choo took on Canadian player Charmaine Reid in the round robin match of the World Super Series Masters Finals 2009 badminton tournament in Johor Bahru.
To be honest Wong Mew Choo was a lucky competitor as she replaced Lu Lan and i dont know how Charmaine Reid can make it to the grand finals.
I personally haven’t heard much about Charmaine Reid but she is Canadian. Anyway enjoy the match!

Haha that was funny the see the Canadian get moved all over the court. Great strategy, the Canadian needs to slim down a bit to try to catch up to speed with the speedy asian players, just moving her around and creating the opening was good enough to win, didn’t even need to attack.
naa, it’s not a matter of slimming down nor being speedy. it’s about the footwork as the commentator stated.
Reid just had a different playing style just as everyone prob has their own.
They are not in same category …. how Reid reach the final ?!? But anyway congrats to her and to Canadian Badminton =)

These are not the finals.. the tourney is called World Super Series Masters Finals.. :p.
Al, the commentator is not going to say the players are fat on live TV, use your head lol how the hell are you supposed to get good footwork if you’re not slim, its being able to carry your weight on court, the less weight the quicker you can move simple as that. She has decent footwork, she’s just not as fast.

Reid does NOT have good footwork, it ain’t decent at all tbh, considering the fact that she’s ranked No.55 in the world atm for women’s singles.
It’s not about being slim, you don’t have to be slim to play good badminton and keep up with “speedy asian players”.
Take some of the men that play Men’s Doubles, some of them are pretty big and heavy but look at what they’ve acheived.
Footwork is the basic, if you don’t have good footwork, well obviously you’d be slow on court.
Wong Mew Choo’s footwork is by far one of the best in Women’s Singles atm, standard is probably better than some of the China players.
Charmaine Reid made it to the finals of this world class tounie so she must be doing something right. Granted, having a thinner more lighter bone structure can allow someone to move quicker but that doesnt always tanslate to wins. Poul-Eirk Larson as i recall wasnt a particularly a small man but he won alot of tournies. Morten Frost wasnt tiny either and he won quite a bit. Kido is quite a short man but hes like a dynamo on the court. Charmaine Reid didnt win the match but she did make it to the finals which most people cant even do so i gotta give credit to where credit is due. You know, sometimes the fight isnt alwasy won by the bigger or faster person..it is won by the one who has the will. After all, this is a badminton tournie, not fashion files..LOL
One more thing, i do have some friends who play badminton who have mentioned to me about Charmaine Reid so i have heard of that name before but ive never met her or know her personally. People who live in big badmitnon countries have to understand that in places where badminton isnt big, it is very hard to persue that as a full time career. imagine working a 9-5 job and then training on your spare time.then theres the cost of travel and coaching and lack of good sparring partners. It`s easy for someone like lcw to train 24-7 when the government pays for everything, even room and board. I mean, how good would lcw be if he had to work at a bank 5 days a week and had a daughter to support. The fact that Reid made the finals is a good accomplishment in itself…given the circumstances.
I don’t believe this was the “final” I think the name of the tourney is World Super Series Masters Finals – I’ve noticed that on several videos that were not “finals”.
Freaking hell, when are these badminton promoters ever going to name their tournaments properly. Maybe they`ll name a tournament The Asian Badminton Semi finals final grand slam bi-annual finale…just to confuse people even more. Its bad enough we gotta hear morons blowing their police whistles and pounding drums during play. Jesus christ almighty, spend some money and hire a dam decent translator!
Hi Guys, the name is correct, just like WCT Finals (just like nomad says, refer to wikipedia, WCT finals), its for the best 8 players in the world.
In Australia, you can’t make a living from badminton and before badmintonfreak and youtube, we have to buy dvd to watch all the good badminton matches. Even during the Sydney Olympics in our own backyard, The Finals was a 2 minute summary on the TV.
Again Nomad, why each time you mention badminton you have to bring in LCW in relation to C Reid? the better example would be your hero LD, not only he is salaried by his g’vt, he can’t have a gf if the state thinks he is not ready yet (read news on Chinese Table Tennis star). If LD plays good, leave LCW out, if C Reid is a working mother, leave LCW out cos he will never get pregnant.
C Reid has enough skills to be better, she needs a good coach and like Tine Rasmussen of Denmark has shown, these two girls can harm the asian girls. C Reid has the power game and yes, she needs to improve on her footwork but she has done well and proud for Canada, a badminton minor. She is a good Qtr finalist in Commonwealth Games.
First of all, Charmaine is 36 yrs old and she has 2 kids to support. I do admire her for having the courage and passion to compete in the international circuit even though she is not training full time.
This Nomad guy is so damn funny, I couldn’t see how he could bring LCW into discussion whenever he talks about badminton. This is a Woman Single match and I was just wondering how the hell could he relate LCW to this thread? It`s easy for someone like Lin Dan to train 24-7 when the government pays for everything, even room and board. He doesn’t need even to hire a coach for himself since his government feed and train even since he is 8. How unfair can this world be?
Anyway, if Lin Dan were to work in bank 5 days a week and have a daughter to support, I doubt he will be good enough to compete in international tournaments. If he still goes to a tournament after he has a steady job and family, he will be screaming:” Tired… Tired…Tired…Tired…Tired…Tired…Tired” all day long and not being able to move around the court.

Although I’m quite passionate about the sport myself, we should still realize it is a sport and not something to live and die by. Let’s all take a good deep breathe and enjoy the sport for what it is, a form of entertainment (because if even professional badminton players don’t enjoy the sport anymore, they shouldn’t be playing it in the first place).

I remembered this w/site started with viewers that full of fun and so passionate evrything about badminton…and mostly they are good sportsmanship (at least criticize with manners).I found this site when i was randomly searching about badminton.(i’m pretty sure at that time Jason is one of Chong Wei biggest + freakiest fan). I Watched the videos, read the viewers’ comments about the game,having Jason to interrupt once in a while (it’s nice to read ur feedback, J).i’m so glad to find this kind of w/site.

I felt guilty saying those words because they should be bootlickers (not the ones I wrote) but I didn't want to be too defensive. I was queueing at the Singapore Zoo waiting to watch the Ape Show when I wrote that and suddenly there were two balls passing around to the crowds and to the Apes who caught them like Michael Jordan. With internet, after you clicked “Sent”, there is no return. I know you are a LD supporter, good on you. Let's keep this site civilised. If Jason sees this, can you please delete our comment about bootlickers which were written incorrectly and in worst taste.
Come to think of it Susan, you are right. I did call (now a friend) Alpha a SOB and Nomad etc etc… Thanks for bringing that up and rest assured it will never happen again. Oh, you make the best point there susan, I missed your comment. It's safe to say that little kimmy is a glutton for punishment. Although it is hilarius to expose kimmy for what he is, it's no secret that if you look through most of the videos, kimmy's writing is on it.. it's as sure as Judas will betray Jesus. As for me I dont care either way cause I come on mainly to watch videos Jason puts on, not to tell everyone how who or when i play or do what, i''ll leave that to kimmy…but I feel so sorry for people who watch the videos, put their 2 cents down and then have to deal with little kimmy's petty responses. And its clear that kimmy lives in his own little world where he sees himself as the foremost expert, because somehow by him telling us he plays with ex champions [as if we care or can validate it] somehow it makes him a badminton know-it-all. I mean, you would have to be a supreme narcissist to go and tell ppl online what you do and who you play badminton with. This is a classic case of someone who takes badminton or anything for that matter waaay too seriously. Classic symptoms for a person like kimmy who have never made it anywhere in the world of badminton ,so to compensate for that major bruise to his ego he convinces himself as being the foremost badminton expert here and god forbid if anyone here were to have a different view, kimmys gonna be on them like pimples on a teenagers face.
